How did the New Amsterdam Schiphol airport scale back urine spillage from urinals in the men's bathrooms?
In the early 1990s, as per the story, the cleaning assistant at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport was trying to scale back “spillage” around urinals. He glued small, realistic images of flies near the drain inside urinals. The thought was to offer people something to aim at.
In an effort to scale back the cleaning cost, New Amsterdam Schiphol airport installed an image of a fly within the urinals in order that men can aim at it and avoid splashing the urine. It worked.
